Mel Gibson’s ‘Flight Risk’ leads box office on opening day
It flew to number one.
“Flight Risk” landed in first place in the box office on its opening day Friday, earning $4.4 million, according to The Numbers.
The action thriller, directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg, is expected to enjoy an $11 to $12 million opening weekend.
Remaining in second place was “One of Them Days,” the buddy comedy starring Keke Palmer and singer SZA, with a $2.3 million dollar take.
In its first week in theaters, it earned $16.2 million, according to Screen Rant.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” stayed in the third spot, with $1.9 million in revenue.
This week, it became the third Disney film released in 2024 to take in more than $600 million, and the seventh overall.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3″ stayed in fourth place, with sales of $1.1 million.
The action adventure flick, based on the Sega video game series, is already available to stream at home, on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV.
News of its follow-up, “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” was already announced, with a release date of March 19, 2027.
The inspirational indie film “Brave the Dark” took fifth place, with earnings of more than $930,000.
