Creation of posts, recruitment is continuous process: Health Minister on faculty vacancies in AIIMS
Fully operational All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across India are seeing a faculty vacancy, including 34% in AIIMS New Delhi, 24% in AIIMS Bhopal, 25% in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, 28% in AIIMS Jodhpur, 38% in AIIMS Raipur, 27% in AIIMS Patna, and 39% in AIIMS Rishikesh.
This information was shared by the Union Health Ministry earlier this week in the Rajya Sabha, while replying to a question on shortage of faculty and healthcare services in the AIIMS by Member of Parliament Sanjeev Arora.
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in his statement said that there were faculty shortages at 12 cities where institutions such as the AIIMS were partially operational, including 41% in Mangalagiri, 23% in Nagpur, and 39% in Kalyani.
The Minister further said that the Centre had approved the setting up of 22 new AIIMSs under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
“Creation of posts and recruitment is a continuous process. In order to expeditiously fill vacant sanctioned positions in various AIIMS, steps have been taken by the Government,’’ his statement noted.

The Minister said that the centralised Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) is conducted by AIIMS Delhi for the recruitment of nursing officers in various AIIMS, while the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) is conducted by AIIMS Delhi for facilitating recruitment for Group B and Group C non-faculty vacancies across the AIIMSs.
Additionally, the Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET), and the Institute of National Importance Super Speciality (INI-SS) examination is conducted by AIIMS Delhi to select Junior Residents (Academic) and Senior Residents (Academic) for the various AIIMS.

“The government does not want to recruit persons for the sake of filling up the posts,” the Minister said at a press conference recently, in reply to a question of vacant posts in AIIMS across India.
“The quality of people taken in matters, and we will not compromise on that,’’ the Minister said, adding that securing faculty is a slow process.
