Seal has jump scare transformation in Mountain Dew Super Bowl 2025 ad

“Baja, baja, baja, baja!”

Seal transformed into an actual Seal for his new Super Bowl 2025 commercial for Mountain Dew — and it’s hard to look away. The musician, 61, even belts out a new rendition of his 1994 hit song “Kiss From a Rose” for the ad.

The commercial opens with Mountain Dew’s Mountain Dude offering singer Becky G the company’s Baja Blast flavored drink.

After accepting and taking a sip, Seal’s transported to the ocean, landing in a boat driven by Mountain Dude.

Seal said that he thought it was a bit cliche but funny when he saw his body edited to a seal for the first time.

“Refreshing,” Becky G, 27, tells Mountain Dude.

“It’s kissed by the perfect amount of tropical lime,” he replies.

The scene then pans to multiple seals on a rock formation singing the beginning of what viewers might think is “Kiss From a Rose.”

At the top of the rock formation, Seal is revealed, but not as his usual self. Instead, Seal has been transformed into, well, an actual seal.

The commercial goes to a scene where multiple seals on a rock formation singing the beginning of what viewers might think is “Kiss From a Rose.”
At the top of the rock formation, Seal is edited as a seal while singing a new rendition of his 1994 song “Kiss From a Rose.”

“Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay,” Seal sings dramatically, altering a few lyrics from his hit song. “Ohh, the more I think about it, it’s strange I’m a seal yeah.”

Seal then explains that he can’t hold a Mountain Dew bottle because it “slips right on through” his flippers.

Dramatically, everyone, including the seals, stop to stare as two sharks swim around them.

After a beat, Seal croons: “There’s so much a seal can tell you, so much he can say. Dew remains my power, my pleasure, my flame.”

Seal told Today.com that he thought it was a bit cliche but funny when he saw his body edited to a seal for the first time.

“I did have to laugh because it was done in, kind of in good humor. … There are aspects and parts of my life that are really serious, that require focus and responsibility and accountability,” he told the outlet.

“And so, anytime I get a chance to laugh and make fun of myself with a meme that was with my head on a seal, I mean, it’s hilarious and it’s a good antidote of relief to the seriousness of life.”

Seal feels “really fortunate” that his song still resonates with fans today.

“I’m a kid from a working-class area of London born in the ’60s with nothing but a lot of dreams and a voice,” he said. “And so, if you’d have told me I would have one song, just one song that would make such a difference and turn out to be an iconic song that most people around the world know, well … it’s amazing. I don’t take one bit for granted.”

The commercial ends with Seal, now back to his original self, saying, “Good looking seal,” as he sits on the boat with a Mountain Dew in his hand.

The commercial will air during the Super Bowl 59 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs at New Orleans Caesars Superdome on Sunday, Feb. 9.
