Sumanth Bhat’s acclaimed coming-of-age drama Mithya produced by Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios will release in theatres on March 7. Recently, the makers debuted the film’s teaser, introducing the story of Mithun, an 11-year-old boy reeling from the tragedy of losing both his parents. The film explores complex themes of grief, adolescence and displacement.

The film was premiered at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2023, It stars child actor Athish S Shetty in the primary role.

Mithya won a special jury mention at the 15th Bengaluru International Film Festival in 2024.

Speaking about the film’s origins, Sumanth had told The Hindu: “The starting point of this film was an incident in my distant relative’s family. The father died of some illness, and 13 days later, the mother committed suicide. During one of the funerals, I saw their three-year-old boy jumping around. He had no idea what had happened. That image of the boy haunted me, and I wanted to understand how kids of that age grieve for the loss of their parents.”
