SASSA Urges Beneficiaries to Replace Expiring Gold Cards by February 28
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged beneficiaries to replace their expiring gold cards before February 28, 2025, to ensure uninterrupted access to their social grants.
The agency announced that the old SASSA gold cards will no longer be valid after this date and must be replaced with the new Postbank black cards.
SASSA has partnered with Postbank to facilitate the transition, allowing beneficiaries to obtain their new cards at participating retailers, including Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Boxer, and Pick n Pay supermarkets nationwide.
The replacement process is free of charge, and beneficiaries need only present a valid South African ID book or temporary ID to receive their new card.
According to Postbank, the card replacement initiative is a crucial step in ensuring the security and efficiency of grant payments.
The new black cards are designed with enhanced security features to prevent fraud and unauthorized access to funds.
SASSA and Postbank have also issued a warning against scammers who may try to take advantage of the card replacement process. Beneficiaries are advised to be cautious and only engage with authorized officials when replacing their cards.
It is recommended that beneficiaries do not share their personal details or PINs with anyone to avoid falling victim to fraud.
To assist beneficiaries in locating the nearest card-issuing outlet, Postbank has provided a USSD service accessible by dialing 120218*3#.
The agency has also emphasized the importance of replacing the cards as soon as possible to prevent last-minute congestion at distribution points.
Beneficiaries who fail to replace their gold cards by the deadline may experience difficulties in receiving their grants, as the old cards will be deactivated after February 28. SASSA encourages all affected individuals to act promptly to avoid any disruptions in their payments.
For further information, beneficiaries can visit the official SASSA and Postbank websites or contact their nearest SASSA office.
