Seth Rogen on James Franco revealing the end of their friendship

This is the end.

Seth Rogen has responded to James Franco recently revealing that their years-long friendship ended after the latter faced several allegations of sexual misconduct.

Franco spilled the beans on the current status of his relationship with Rogen during an October interview with Variety. “No. I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over,” Franco told the outlet. “And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.”

The remarks, however, don’t seem to have made much of an impact on Rogen.

In a new Esquire profile published on Tuesday, Rogen was asked how it felt “to have something so personal become so public.” The interviewer, Dave Holmes, noted that the “Long Shot” star was “clearly not surprised to get the question” but was “just as clearly not happy about it.”

“Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar,” Rogen said about Franco’s comments.

Holmes then added, “That is all he wants to say about that.”

Rogen and Franco came up together in Hollywood, first acting on the short-lived ’90s teen sitcom “Freaks and Geeks.” The pair hit it big with 2008’s stoner comedy “Pineapple Express” and made other movies together, including “This Is the End,” “The Interview,” and “The Disaster Artist,” which was Franco’s 2017 directorial debut. The Oscar-nominated film was their last on-screen collaboration.

In 2018, Franco faced allegations of sexual misconduct, which were leveled at him by several students from his former acting school. Franco’s former pupils accused the actor of intimidating them into sexual situations. The “127 Hours” star denied the claims and, in February 2021, settled a lawsuit brought against him by his accusers.

Months later, in May, Rogen stated that he regretted comments he had made in 2018, shortly after the allegations of Franco surfaced that he would work with his friend and frequent co-star again.

“I also look back to that interview in 2018 where I comment that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now,” Rogen told UK outlet The Times.

Asked whether their personal relationship was over, the “Superbad” star responded, “Erm, I don’t know if I can define that right now during this interview. I can say it, um, you know, it has changed many things in our relationship and our dynamic.”

When the interviewer noted that the situation “must have been painful,” Rogen was quick to reply, “Yeah. But not as painful and difficult as it is for a lot of other people involved. I have no pity for myself in this situation.”
