Dawn Pictures’ Aakash Baskaran, producer of Sivakarthikeyan-Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi, and actor-producer Vijay Antony have buried the hatchet over the ownership of the title Parasakthiin Telugu.
As we had reported earlier, a controversy had erupted over the ownership of a film’s title, between Dawn Pictures and Vijay Antony Film Corporation, the banner under which Vijay is making Shakthi Thirumagan, which was also titled Parashakthi in Telugu.
In a new update today (January 30), Aakash and Vijay met and resolved the issue. According to a press statement, the makers have finalised that Sivakarthikeyan’s film will be titled Parasakthi in both Tamil and Telugu and that Vijay’s film will be titled Shakthi Thirumagan in Tamil and Parasakthi in Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. The Telugu title of Shakthi Thirumugan will be announced soon.

As a gesture of mutual respect, Aakash also released a picture with Vijay on his X handle. The official handle of Dawn Pictures reposted the picture with the caption “United we stand @vijayantony @ArunPrabu_ (sic)“
This has put an end to a controversy that had erupted following the title announcement promo of both the films on Wednesday. Vijay Antony Film Corporation released a first-look poster to reveal the title of the star’s upcoming film with Aruvi-maker Arun Prabu Purushothaman. While the Tamil poster carried the title Shakthi Thirumagan, Parashakthi featured as the title for the Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam versions.
Later, Dawn Pictures unveiled a title teaser to announce Parasakthi as the title of filmmaker Sudha Kongara’s upcoming bilingual, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela. The posters, in Tamil and Telugu, featured Parasakthi as the title.
The issue blew over when Vijay Antony released a certificate issued by The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, which stated that the star’s banner had registered the title ‘Paraashakthi’ in Telugu.
Responding to the same, Dawn Pictures released their certificates, from the Tamil Film Producers Council and the Telugu Film Producers Council, certifying that the banner has registered the title ‘Parasakthi’ in both languages. Further, the banner also released the Central Board of Film Certification’s censor certificate for the theatrical title teaser of their film in both languages.

The matter got even more eyeballs when AVM Productions, the banner that produced the iconic 1952 Sivaji Ganesan-starrer Parasakthi, released a letter announcing that it had passed the baton of the title to Dawn Pictures. “The story they are going to tell will carry forward the spirit of resistance which will only make our title burn brighter and continue to inspire future generations,” the letter read.
The demand for the title ‘Parasakthi’ is monumental given the honourable status 1952’s Parasakthi, directed by Krishnan–Panju and written by M Karunanidhi, enjoys in Tamil cinema. The film, which marked the acting debut of the late legendary Sivaji Ganesan, is widely revered as a Tamil masterpiece.
Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi has a script written by Sudha and Arjun Nadesan. With cinematography by Ravi K Chandran and editing by Sathish Surya, the film will have music scored by GV Prakash Kumar.
Vijay Antony’s Shakthi Thirumagan, features Vaagai Chandrasekar, Sunil Kriplani, Cell Murugan, Trupthi Ravindra, and child actor Keshav. Vijay Antony will be handling the music for the film. Cinematographer Shelley Calist and editor Raymond Derrick Crasta, who were a part of Arun’s films Aruvi and Vaazhl, are also on board.
