The cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) are rising in Maharashtra day by day, three new suspected cases of GBS were reported on Saturday, with the toll reaching 183 and deaths at six. The two more water sources were found contaminated on Saturday, as the water samples were rapidly tested.

Among the total 183 suspected patients, 151 patients were diagnosed with GBS, 47 were in ICU, and 21 were on ventilators. These patients are from different parts of Maharashtra, including 37 patients from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 88 from newly added villages in the PMC area, 26 from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), 24 from Pune Rural and eight are from other districts. One suspected new GBS case was reported today, and the remaining two cases are from previous days, as per the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme data by the Public Health Department.
Out of 4,761 water samples sent to the Public Health Laboratory from different parts of the city for chemical and biological analysis, 55 water sources were found contaminated till now. 80 serum samples have been sent to NIMHANS Bengaluru for Antiganglioside Antibodies testing.
The State-level rapid response has continued with visits to the affected areas of PMC, and rural district authorities have been instructed to increase surveillance activities. In house-to-house surveillance activities, 46,534 houses in Pune MC, 24,883 houses in PCMC and 13,291 houses in Pune rural areas have been surveyed (total 84,708).
