Why Meghan Markle left Invictus Games early without Prince Harry
Meghan Markle has headed back to California.
The “Suits” alum, 43, returned to her Montecito home after time in Canada for the 2025 Invictus Games.
Markle’s pre-planned arrangement was so that she could be with her and Prince Harry’s two children: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, will stay in Vancouver and Whistler for the remainder of the Games, which run through Feb. 16. Prince Harry created the international sporting event that celebrates wounded, injured and sick service members and veterans in 2014 and is also the patron of the Invictus Games Foundation.
Despite Markle having a slew of solo projects in the works — including her Netflix show “With Love, Meghan,” the Duchess of Sussex’s family remains as her top priority.
And the couple continues to be united in both their personal and professional lives, as Markle returned to Instagram and has shared a look at the weekend’s events.
A Vancouver onlooker told People at the beginning of the event, “I think it’s great that she’s coming. There is a lot of speculation about them and their marriage, but this reinforces one thing to me, at least — there is no separation. It looks like they present a united front when it comes to matters they both care about.”
Markle, meanwhile, isn’t leaving empty handed as she will be bringing some souvenirs back for Archie and Lilibet: custom jerseys from Team Nigeria.
“We did one for him [Harry] and one for M and for the kids,” team manager Derrick Cobbinah told the outlet. “They said they would be excited to have them. She was very, very excited.”
Just days earlier Markle took the stage at the Invictus Games’ welcome reception and gushed over her other half’s dedication to the sporting event.
“With families…the big rush in the morning and getting ready for school and packing the lunchboxes and making breakfast and my husband is in all of that with all of us,” she began. “And then he’ll be on his phone, and Archie will say, ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ and he’s like, ‘Because it’s Invictus, I’m getting ready for Invictus.’”
“It means so much to him,” she continued. “You are his family, just as we are his family. And I hope you recognize how much of his heart he has poured into every single beat that has gotten all of you to this week that is going to be spectacular.”
She also was sure to give the royal the sweetest of shout-outs by introducing him as “the father of our very sweet, excited children who are cheering you on from California, Prince Harry, founder of the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex.”
On Monday, the tables were turned as the Prince took the stage to introduce his friend and singer Michael Bublé.
After the musician kicked off the event by singing a riff of “Feeling Good” Harry donned a sly grin and waved his other half of seven years over.
“My wife and I — come on out here! Come on!” Prince Harry quipped. As she joined him at the podium, they wrapped their arms around each other and Harry quipped, “Now she’s going to sing!”
Looking horrified, Markle burst out laughing and shut down the possibility with a firm, “No!”
As they exited the stage, the American Riviera Orchard founder turned to the crowd with a warm farewell: “Thank you, everybody. Have the best time!”
