Apollo Cancer Centres and Cure Foundation on Monday (February 3) launched a free cervical cancer vaccination programme. The campaign was inaugurated by actor Meenakshi Choudhary and Vijay Anand Reddy, director of Apollo Cancer Centres.

The vaccination drive, which will run throughout February, is being conducted at Apollo Cancer Centres, Jubilee Hills. Women can avail themselves of free HPV vaccinations between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In an effort to extend the programme’s reach, the hospital has also committed to vaccinating young girls in orphanages across Hyderabad at no cost.

As part of the initiative, 150 orphaned girls were vaccinated on the first day of the drive. The programme will continue until the end of February to ensure that more women and young girls receive the protection they need against cervical cancer, said Vijay Anand Reddy.

Dr. Vijay Anand highlighted that while vaccines currently exist to prevent only two types of cancer, liver cancer and cervical cancer, it is crucial to make these vaccinations widely accessible.
